Case Presentation

Ahmad, aged 42, has been amputated above the knee as the result of a mine explosion in Afganistan. He comes to the centre 8 months after the initial surgery. He wants to walk again in order to be able to work again in his shop. On assessment he has a hip contracture in abduction with seems fixed. Because of the mine blast, the anterior part of the skin on his stump is full of scars (see picture below). He has also muscle weakness of his hip extensors (grade 2).



What do you think is the most appropriate fitting decision and what is your treatment plan through to discharge? Justify your answer with references from the scientific literature and from the course.
