I am a specialist Physiotherapist in the management of chronic musculoskeletal pain. I have worked in Primary Care for the last 20 years specialising in pain management since 2004 and was appointed Consultant Physiotherapist in Pain Management in 2009. I worked as part of a community based multidisciplinary team delivering an assessment, treatment and self management service for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain to the ethnically and economically diverse population of East and North Birmingham. I am an external lecturer at Birmingham University providing teaching on the management of chronic pain to the physiotherapy pre-registration master’s programme and facilitated the development of undergraduate pain management placements in Primary Care. With Professor Bob Lewin, Dr Frances Cole , Dr Patrick Hill and Dr Polly Ashworth I contributed to the writing and development of the Pain Management Plan which I use it routinely with people with long term pain both individually and as a group programme. I helped develop the training manual and is part of a team of trainers delivering the associated training programme.

I was the Physiotherapy representative on the British Pain Society PMP Special Interest group from 2010-2011 and a member of the BPS working group revising the guidelines for PMP for Adults 2012-2013. In 2010 I gained my Diploma in Non-Medical Prescribing (HPC registered Supplementary Prescriber) and from 2011-12 was the West Midlands Member on the DH project board AHP medicines project. I left the NHS in March 2013 to focus on training and development in the management of long term pain. in 2013 I contributed to the DWP expert review panels on the work capability assessment and I currently work part time at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy as a Professional Adviser.

About Me
[edit | edit source]

Physiotherapist specialising  in the management of chronic musculoskeletal pain. I worked in Primary Care for the last 20 years specialising in pain management since 2004 and was appointed Consultant Physiotherapist in Pain Management in 2009. I worked as part of a community based multidisciplinary team delivering an assessment, treatment and self management service for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain to the ethnically and economically diverse population of East and North Birmingham.
Working with a Consultant Health Psychologist I developed & implemented new ways of delivering Pain Management Programmes to populations with poor literacy levels or who do not speak English. For example this has included working with a local film company to produce an animated version of the Pete Moore’s Pain Toolkit. I established interpreted single sex Pain Management and Exercise and Advice programmes which address cultural needs.
My other main interest is increasing the skill base amongst the community physiotherapy team and others in the evidence based management of patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain and long term conditions. I am an  external lecturer at Birmingham University providing teaching on the management of chronic pain to the physiotherapy pre-registration and master’s programme.
Working with a team including Dr Frances Cole, Professor Bob Lewin & Dr Patrick Hill I contributed to the writing and development of the Pain Management Plan which is a faciliated training manual for people with long term pain. . I helped develop the training manual and am part of a team of trainers delivering the associated training programme to healthcare professionals including physiotherapists, nurses, GPs , psychologist and others.
I was the Physiotherapy representative on the British Pain Society PMP Special Interest group from 2010-2011 and a member of the BPS working group revising the guidelines for PMP for Adults 2012-21014.
I gained her Diploma in Non-Medical Prescribing (HPC registered Supplementary Prescriber) in 2010 and from 2011-12 was the West Midlands Member on the DH project board AHP medicines project.
