I am a second year student in the Physical Therapy program at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. I have experienced different areas of Physical Therapy prior to starting school. My greatest opportunity has been an internship in Sydney, Australia working in a private Physiotherapy clinic for two months. My experience in Australia is what inspired my passion for helping individuals with physical impairments and disabilities. I continued my exposure to Physical Therapy by working as a Rehab Tech in an outpatient clinic before starting Physical Therapy school in May of 2012.
In my first year of school I have had great opportunities to further my skills and broaden my horizons in the physical therapy profession. National Student Conclave in Arlington, Virginia was an eye opening experience to discover the different career paths in physical therapy. I attended PT Day in Indianapolis to help Indiana gain Direct Access and dipped my toe into the world of legislation. I was also granted the opportunity to aid families in Zacapa, Guatemala through one of my school’s study abroad programs. The true reward of that trip was seeing the small difference that I can make to one person through the use of what I have learned. It is important to me to continue giving to those less fortunate who cannot receive the medical attention they desperately need.
