Rotimi Elisha Alao is a Physiotherapist at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, where he functions with the medical team in treatment planning, clinical assessment and delivery of Physiotherapy interventions for optimum health and wellness of the populace. He also runs a Physiotherapy clinic at the Cross Nation Consultant Hospital, Lokoja, a department he started up April 2017 in collaboration with the hospitals Chief Medical Director.
Rotimi was born in Ajaokuta, Nigeria on 12 April 1991. He graduated 3rd best in the class of 2014, with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the prestigious University of Ibadan where he also bagged distinctions in Kinesiology, and Orthopaedics and Traumatology. After his undergraduate education, Mr Alao interned with the University College Hospital, Ibadan, rendering rehabilitation services to hundreds of patients. He then proceeded to serve as a Physiotherapist at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto. At Sokoto he volunteered with the ‘Childhood Disease Eradication Club,’ refurbishing the Aliyu Jodi Primary Health Centre, advocating for the health of the Nigerian child and reaching out to impoverished children in northern Nigeria.
Mr Alao has great confidence in the inner resources of humans and believes the world could be a better place through people building and selfless leadership. Hence, he has led in different groups ranging from health and outreach committees to Christian fellowships and mentorship activities. Rotimi spends his free time playing football in the evenings and composing songs on the piano.
During his few years of professional practice he has had to constantly grapple with sudden halts in patients rehabilitation and inadequate health technologies due to insufficient health coverage and poor health financing. Mr Alao has therefore developed a passion for strengthening the Nigerian health system with a focus on, 'improving access to and quality of rehabilitation services in Nigeria.’ To this end also hopes to start a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation.
