Pierre is South African born and a South African trained Physiotherapist, currently working and residing in Brisbane, Australia. He qualified in 2008 with a BSc. Physiotherapy degree from Wits University.

Pierre served out his community service placement in Mpumalanga, and completed his advanced dry needling certification in 2009. He joined a private practice in Pretoria in 2010, where he worked alongside a modern group of orthopaedic surgeons, and was responsible for rehabilitating complex arthroscopic procedures and joint replacements. He also had a caseload of competitive Athletics South Africa contracted athletes. He subsequently completed his Sport Physiotherapy Certification in 2010, and then his Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy Certification in 2011.

Pierre moved down to Durban in 2012, a coastal town in KwaZulu Natal, and opened his own clinic. Over the next 3 years, he completed most of the Pain Physiotherapy certification modules and exams, and started assisting on the Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy course, eventually lecturing and leading the course in KwaZulu Natal. 

In 2016, Pierre started another chapter in his career, by training as a Men’s and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist which also included courses on Women’s Health, Male Pelvic Pain, Prostate Cancer and Diagnostic Ultrasound.

Pierre also served as a part time lecturer in Physiotherapy at the University of KwaZulu Natal between 2013-2017, and subsequently also earned his Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy (via Dissertation) in 2017.  Pierre started a PhD in clinical medicine (Urology) in 2018, with a special focus on sexual dysfunction related to prostate cancer. His aim is to finish his PhD in 2022.

Pierre has created a 6 part Prostate Cancer Course series for the international Physiopaedia platform, and has presented 12 Men’s Health modules for an worldwide audience through Club Physio. He regularly present on topics relating to prostate cancer and male sexual health to members of the South African Society of Physiotherapy. He is in the process of publishing a series of academic papers as part of completing his PhD, and will also be presenting his research at the World Physiotherapy Congress in Dubai in 2021 and in Toyo in 2023 as he has been identified as an Early Career Researcher.

Pierre is blessed to be married to Mandy, his wife of 7 years, and they share 2 beautiful young children, Emma Rose and Oliver Peter. Pierre enjoys cycling, and has completed numerous classic cycling events, and has also completed 4 Ironman 70.3 events.

Professional Appointments[edit | edit source]

Pierre is a past South African chairman for the Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy Group (NMSPG), and represented South Africa on the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT) from 2016-2020. Pierre was recently elected to serve on the Executive Committee of IFOMPT board for 2020-202. Pierre is also one of 2 Physiotherapist that serve on the Medical and Scientific Board of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of South Africa.
