First of all Thank You for visiting my profile and a massive Hello to you. I am Saumya Srivastava ( yes my name can be a tongue twister), but I am generally known as SAM. I currently work as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner for the brilliant NHS in the Primary Care Network and am in charge for the MSK services for the PCN. I also do private clinics out of Northwest London.

I was born and raised in India and did my Bachelor's degree from M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore India (2006). Post bachelor's I had a one year work experience in India itself where I worked as a lead physio for a renowned Orthopaedic Consultant based out of Delhi ( my birth place). I then migrated to the UK in 2008 to pursue onward education and was lucky enough to gain a PG Diploma and a MSc from premier UK institutions. I did my PG Diploma in MSK Sciences from University College London (2008-2009) and then entered the MSc Pain: Science and Society programme at Kings College London (2009-2010). Post MSc I started to work in the MSK field. During the course of the last 10 years I have dabbled with Paediatric PT ( home based physio for 2 CP kids), Neurological Rehab ( Stroke/Parkinson's to name a few) and Palliative Care ( End of life care) at a Hospice as well. I then had a change of job roles as wanted to challenge myself and became a Disability Analyst for the Department of Works and Pension (UK) for a couple of years. Although this role helped with further development of communication and time keeping skills, I did not enjoy the role much and therefore finally took the current position in the NHS.

I owe a lot of my personal and professional development to my MSc. It made me think out of the box for not only my patients, but also helped me to re evaluate my own personal belief system. It made me realise that although pure biological issues do have a role, it is the Biopsychosocial (BPS) model that decides patient outcome. Therefore I have seen a shift in my own practise from being a manual therapist to coaching my patients on the BPS model. The above was further cemented with my disability analyst role as it showed me how the psycho-social aspect of the BPS plays a major role in shaping peoples experiences and belief. I am also a huge advocate for patient education and patient led rehab for the same reason.

My vision of an ideal world is not of a pain free world, but to understand it better to decipher what it is trying to convey. In other words, I try to teach my patients pain as a language and help them in understanding what it means for them. I do not consider myself religious but spiritual and that further helps to understand patients as a whole organism rather than a mere disorder/disease or condition.

Thank you once again for your patience and reaching this far.
