Introduction[edit | edit source]

The premotor cortex is a crucial part of the brain, which is believed to have direct control over the physical movements of voluntary muscles.[1] The premotor cortex motor area lies anterior to the primary motor cortex.

The premotor cortex appears to play a role in orienting the body and readying the postural muscles for forthcoming movements. Its anatomical features suggesting this - the premotor cortex mainly projects to the proximal musculature with efferent fibers from the premotor cortex serving motor neurons of the trunk and shoulders predominantly and the fact that it receives inputs important for spatial orientation from the posterior parietal cortex[2].
