Hemothorax

This page is currently undergoing work, but please come back later to check out new information!!

The term hemothorax is used to describe blood in the pleural space which is usually a result of trauma to the chest. Hemothorax can also occur spontaneously or as a complication during or following surgery however this is much less common.

Blunt or penetrating trauma involving any intrathoracic structure can cause a hemothorax.
