Hemothorax

The term hemothorax is used to describe blood in the pleural space which is usually a result of trauma to the chest. Hemothorax can also occur spontaneously or as a complication during or following surgery however this is much less common. The bleeding can originate from any intrathoracic structure.

Symptoms[edit | edit source]

    • fever
    • pallor
    • chest pain
    • chest heaviness
    • dyspnea
    • tachycardia
    • cold sweats

Diagnosis[edit | edit source]

Usually diagnosed by CT or Xray of the chest.
