The metatarsal bones, consisting of five long bones, are found in the foot and numbered medially to laterally from 1 to 5.
Gross Anatomy & Structure[edit | edit source]
The metatarsal bones start at the tarsus and end at the phalanges, forming two joints: tarsometatarsal joint & metatarsolphalangeal joint.
Each of the metatarsal bones consist of a shaft ( aka body), proximal base and a distal head.
