About Me[edit | edit source]
I am a Registered Physiotherapist from Nepal. I have completed my 4 and half year of bachelor degree in physiotherapy in 2018.
I have gained 3 months of experience in rehabilitation setting where mainly neurological patients with stroke, Parkinson disease, traumatic brain injury, motor neuron diseases were admitted in their sub-acute state. After that, I joined Annapurna Neurological Institute and Allied Sciences (ANIAS)- hospital based setting where I was exposed to out-patient, in-patient ( wards and ICU) with patient with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. These two settings really helped me to understand the urban health setting and how patients are referred to physiotherapy. I wanted to serve the rural community of our country from my bachelor community placements. Thus I joined the project name, " Improving physiotherapy access in Nepal" a collaborative project of Rehab Nepal, Dhulikhel Hospital and Rotary club of Dhulikhel and Marblehead, USA. I got to improve my hand-on skills from international physiotherapist from USA during this period especially on neurological, musculoskeletal, geriatric and women's health. I was a very fruitful journey of which I am very proud about. Working in the rural setting thrived both my professional and personal growth. Getting to know health care system of Nepal, working in collaboration with local government bodies for the benefit of people with disabilities, raising awareness about need of rehabilitation in other health professionals and being active in research projects, being more empathic, understanding one's level of education in the health are some of the boon of working in rural setting.
I have understood how the level of person's education and their culture i.e. social environment impact in their health. Physiotherapy is the health profession which have broad aspect and need to deal with not only physical aspect but social and psychological aspect too. Thus, I believe in biopsychosocial model of treatment. Since, it deals with many aspects, it is quite hard to make people understand about need of physiotherapy and how does it work, even I don't have that level of knowledge to understand. Hence, I want to enhance my knowledge by pursuing further education. I am very much interested to the biomechanics of our body and how impairment in it causes various problems. Pain science is the another topic with hit me hard. I also love how rehabilitation in right time can bring change in someone's life.
I believe in, " The only person you should compare yourself to is the person you were yesterday."- Amy Morin
That's why I always try to learn from small things possible and because of which I am here in Physiopedia to learn, improve my skills as well as to provide a bit contribution to our physiotherapy community.
